Twice-a-year roof checks
Look from the ground for missing shingles, lifted ridge caps, clogged valleys, debris behind chimneys, and loose flashing.
After heavy wind, check for shingles or ridge-cap pieces in the yard and new stains on ceilings or attic sheathing.
Keep water moving
Clear gutters, valleys, and roof edges where pine needles or leaves collect. Debris traps moisture and can push water under shingles.
Watch low-slope areas for ponding water, cracked membrane, or failed seams.
Common questions
- Should I climb onto my roof?
- Not if the roof is steep, wet, icy, brittle, or high. Many issues can be spotted from the ground or attic, and a roofer can inspect safely.
- When should I call a roofer?
- Call after active leaks, missing shingles, branch impacts, suspicious ceiling stains, or when the roof is approaching 20 years old.
